Ohio well owner undertakes study after earthquakes

COLUMBUS (AP) — A spokesman for a northeast Ohio brine injection well that agreed to shut down operations last week after earthquakes in the vicinity says owners are commissioning a geologic study of the area.

D&L Energy Group spokesman Vince Bivacqua told The Associated Press today that everyone involved wants to “figure out what’s going on.” D&L’s financing of the research was first reported by The Vindicator of Youngstown.

Gov. John Kasich imposed a moratorium Saturday within five miles of the well operated by D&L affiliate Northstar Disposal Services LLC after a 4.0 magnitude quake brought the total for 2011 to 11.

Officials from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, which regulates the well, met privately with the company Wednesday.
