WARREN

The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley has several classes scheduled at its main office, 661 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. Pre-registration is required. To register, go online to www.redcross.org, and look for the offering number; or call 330-392-2551.

Dr. Shayesteh talk

YOUNGSTOWN

Dr. Armon Shayesteh, a board certified nutritionist and diabetes educator, will speak at the Jewish Community Center J Caf on Jan. 12 from noon to 1:30 p.m. The cost is $7 for members and $10 for nonmembers. Lunch will be provided. Dr Shayesteh has been in private practice for more than 20 years designing diet and exercise programs for nutrition- related medical problems.

Youth BB League

Youngstown

The Youngstown Central YMCA’s Youth Winter Basketball Leagues is still registering youth for six age divisions from 4 to 15 who will be evaluated and separated into teams according to skill level. The games are for one hour on Saturdays Jan. 28 to March 31, said D’Nelle Seiple, league director.

Players should register by Sunday at the front desk of the Central Y at the corner of Commerce and Champion Streets. There also will be open registration Sunday from 12:30 to 5 p.m. A $10 late fee will be applied after the Jan. 8 deadline.

The Youth Basketball League is open to all youth in the community. The cost is $43 for Y members and $63 for nonmembers. Financial aid is available to those who qualify. Contact Seiple at 330-744-8411 for additional information.

Sign-language class

BOARDMAN

American Sign Language (ASL) classes are offered by the Community for the Deaf at Youngstown Hearing & Speech Center on Southern Boulevard in Boardman. This class will help develop expressive and receptive skills by learning spelling, language, grammar/structure and Deaf Culture.

Classes are: ASL 1 - $115, Tuesdays 6 to 8 p.m., Jan. 24-March 27; ASL II - $90, Tuesdays 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Jan. 24-March 27; ASL III - $90, Mondays 6 to 8 p.m., Jan. 23-March 26; ASL 1V - $85, Thursday 6 to 8 p.m., Jan. 19-March 22.

Local doctor talks at Spain conference

BOARDMAN

Dr. Lawrence A. DiDomenico, managing partner at Ankle & Foot Care Centers, was among a panel of lecturers who recently addressed an international orthopedic and podiatric surgical conference in Madrid, Spain.

Dr. DiDomenico’s lecture and workshop topics at the International Course of Theory and Practice of Foot and Ankle Surgery included ankle replacement, reconstruction of flat feet in adults, tendon transfers and new trends in foot and ankle surgery. The event attracted orthopedic and podiatric surgeons, and medical specialists from throughout Europe. Dr. DiDomenico practices out of the East Liverpool, Boardman and Youngstown offices of Ankle & Foot Care Centers.
