Beachum is re-elected school-board president

The city school board has re-elected Lock P. Beachum Sr. as its president.

Andrea Mahone was elected vice president.

β€œIt is an honor to serve as president of this board, and I take this responsibility very seriously,” said Beachum, who also served as president last year. β€œI pledge my continued support to our superintendent and the Academic Distress Commission. It is my goal to lead this board with a focus on our students. We will continue to make decisions and provide programs that inspire our students to achieve academic success and prepare them to live and work in a 21st- century economy driven by information, knowledge and innovation.”

Beachum has served as a member of the Youngstown Board of Education for 13 years.

A leader in local and national organizations, he served as president of Youngstown Area Urban League, McGuffey Center Inc., Youngstown Community Action Center, Inc., and Mahoning County Drug Clinic.

He served as Immediate Past Chair of the Council of Urban Boards Steering Committee, and served a two-year term as chairman of the Council of Urban Boards of Education. He also served two years on the National League of Cities Board of Directors.
