After 29 months in business, a Canfield restaurant is making a change.

Drake’s Landing on Western Reserve Road served its last dinner as a restaurant New Year’s Eve. The business is undergoing renovations and will become a full-service banquet facility.

Customers with unused gift cards may redeem them with a 10 percent premium during any one of the establishments holiday buffets, including Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Thanksgiving, or use the cards toward a private function. Under the policy, a $50 card would be worth $55.

“We’re very excited,” said Teresa Bieber, co-owner. “We always offered banquet facilities but we weren’t big enough.”

Drake’s Landing’s banquet business outpaced the restaurant’s demand, during the slow economy.

Now, instead of the building accommodating a restaurant and banquet room, it will be a large open space with a dance floor, Bieber said.

The space will be able to accommodate up to 240 people for events such as weddings, graduations, anniversaries and birthday parties.

“It’s a great way to service the community,” said Bieber.

Drake’s Landing Banquet Center will remain open during the renovations, which are expected to take one month.

It will also be looking to hire new employees as well as absorb its current work force.
