Ohio man accused of eye stabbing
CINCINNATI (AP) — An Ohio man accused of stabbing another man in the eyes with a steak knife and an antenna laughed and swore at a judge during an initial hearing.
Eugene Dase, 33, of Cincinnati appeared in a Hamilton County courtroom Monday on charges of felonious assault and robbery. His bond was set at $950,000.
Authorities say Dase stabbed the man early New Year’s Eve and had beaten another man a day earlier and stolen his cellphone.
Media outlets report the man with eye injuries was in critical condition at a local hospital.
Dase was in the Hamilton County jail. His lawyer Greg Cohen says Dase has mental-health issues and has denied the charges against him.
The judge ordered a mental-health evaluation.
