2 face indecency charges after nude McDonald’s run
GALESBURG, Ill.
Two people who pulled up at a McDonald’s drive-thru in western Illinois completely naked face public-indecency charges.
Police in Galesburg say a 19-year-old El Paso man and a 21-year-old Galesburg woman were released from Knox County Jail after being ordered to appear in court to face the charges.
WGIL Radio reported that the duo was still in the McDonald’s parking lot when officers arrived just before 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Police say the man was crouched over in the driver’s seat trying to pull on a pair of pants while his passenger was covering up in a blanket.
WGIL reported that the pair told officers the late-night fast-food run might not have been a great idea but that they both still thought it was funny.
Pittsburgh parking spot assessed at $287,800
PITTSBURGH
Pittsburgh residents are up in arms over a new countywide reassessment that has seen some property values triple or quadruple for tax purposes, but real-estate attorney Richard Milesky Jr. thinks he can top them all.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that his 18-by-10-foot parking space in his condominium complex has been valued at $5,000 in past years, but now it’s supposedly worth $287,800.
For the record, Milesky’s condo is being assessed at just $228,700 — despite a $55,000 increase from the last assessment.
Milesky plans to appeal the parking spot reassessment he assumes is a simple mistake.
The city can’t legally collect more taxes, and schools can receive only a small increase under anti-windfall laws that govern reassessments, so both taxing bodies are expected to lower millage rates to offset the reassessment increases.
Ohio man stabbed in eyes with knife and antenna
CINCINNATI
Authorities say an Ohio man stabbed another man in the eyes with a steak knife and an antenna, a day after he had beaten someone else and stolen his cellphone.
Police say 33-year-old Eugene Dase of Cincinnati stabbed the man early on New Year’s Eve. Media outlets report the man was in critical condition at a hospital. Dase, of Cincinnati, appeared in a Hamilton County courtroom Monday on charges of felonious assault and robbery. He laughed and swore at the judge during the hearing, and the judge ordered a mental-health evaluation.
Dase’s lawyer, Greg Cohen, says his client has mental-health issues and has denied the charges against him. Dase’s bond was set at $950,000, and he’s being held in the Hamilton County jail.
