An Ohio man accused of stabbing another man in the eyes with a steak knife and an antenna laughed and swore at a judge during an initial hearing.
Thirty-three-year-old Eugene Dase of Cincinnati appeared in a Hamilton County courtroom Monday on charges of felonious assault and robbery. His bond was set at $950,000.
Authorities say Dase stabbed the man early New Year’s Eve and had beaten another man a day earlier and stolen his cell phone.
Media outlets report the man with eye injuries was in critical condition at a local hospital.
Dase was being held in the Hamilton County jail. His lawyer Greg Cohen says Dase has mental health issues and has denied the charges against him.
The judge ordered a mental health evaluation.
