I-80 crash in Pa. tally: 45 vehicles, 17 with lesser injuries

REYNOLDSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — A county emergency official says 45 vehicles were caught up in a pileup that closed Interstate 80 for about eight hours in western Pennsylvania, and that 17 people were injured.

Chris Clark, deputy director for 911 operations in Jefferson County, tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that’s the final tally of the crash reported about 2:45 p.m. Monday in Washington Township.

Pennsylvania State Police are still investigating, but Clark says snow squalls cut visibility and made the road slick at times on Monday, even though only about a half-inch of snow actually fell that day.

The crash closed the interstate’s eastbound lanes until late Monday night.

State police were continuing to investigate. Troopers have said some of the injuries were serious, but Clark says those hurt turned out to have mostly minor injuries.
