ENTERTAINMENT DIGEST || The top 25 concert tours of 2011
The top 25 concert tours of 2011 reaped $2.1 billion, about the same as last year. But North American gross ticket sales from the top 25 tours were $1.19 billion, about 4 percent less than in 2010. Pollstar editor-in-chief Gary Bongiovanni said that decline probably resulted from promoter Live Nation Entertainment Inc.’s effort to cut down on money-losing shows. He expects a rise in North American revenue next year as tours are expected from the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, Madonna, Justin Bieber and Adele. Here are the top 5 grossing tours of 2011:
v U2: $156 million
v Taylor Swift: $97.7 million
v Kenny Chesney: $84.6 million
v Lady Gaga: $63.7 million
v Bon Jovi: $57.1 million
