SALEM

Members of Salem Historical Society named officers for 2012 recently during their annual Christmas program.

Salem Mayor Jerry Wolford conducted the installation of the following: David J. Shivers, president; Judi Allio, vice president; Carolyn Alesi, B.J. Abrams and Alice Deatherage, three-year trustees; Judy White, secretary; Dixie Gordon, corresponding secretary; and April Trenkelbach, treasurer. Reappointed for another term were Janice Lesher, curator, and David Stratton, director.

Alma Apicella was recognized for her six-year tenure as a trustee; she will continue to serve on the building committee for the Dale Shaffer Research Library.

It was announced that “Standby for 75 Years of Memories,” the book begun by Shaffer and completed by others after his death, is available in the gift shop.

Christopher Kenney of the William McKinley Museum discussed the origins of some popular Christmas carols. A sing-along followed the program, and refreshments were served.
