ST. BERNARD, Ohio

Thousands of dollars’ worth of toys stolen from a Cincinnati-area Toys for Tots warehouse around Christmas were recovered after two tips led police to a home in northern Kentucky, officers said Saturday.

Police in suburban St. Bernard say two tipsters led officers to search a home on Friday night in Covington, Kentucky, just across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. Officers found an estimated $10,000 worth of toys at the house and in a car. Early Saturday morning, they found a storage bin in Cincinnati containing more stolen items.

In all, police said they recovered about 16 refrigerator-size boxes of toys with a total estimated value of $30,000, along with a stolen microwave oven and a small refrigerator belonging to U.S. Marines. Toys for Tots is run nationally by the Marine Corps Reserve.

The suspects, 41-year-old Nathan Rose and 25-year-old Jessie Simpson, were jailed in northern Kentucky on charges of receiving stolen property. No attorneys were listed for them.
