Youngstown

Police identified Tyrus Scott as the teen shot on the city’s South Side Monday.

Scott, 16, of East Lucius Avenue, was shot in the head just before 3 p.m. Monday outside 64 E. Avondale Ave, according to police.

His condition was not released by St. Elizabeth Health Center on Tuesday evening.

Police reported that one vehicle being sought is an older vehicle with damage, the other is a Buick Rendezvous, and there may also be a truck or another SUV involved.

Wire-fraud charge

CLEVELAND

A 22-year-old Youngstown man has been federally charged with wire fraud, the U.S. Attorney said.

The federal prosecutor said Brandon Shingleton fraudulently obtained cellular phones, which he sold to innocent buyers on the Internet through the eBay auction website, with payments processed by PayPal by wire transfers and payable to him.

The offenses reportedly occurred between Dec. 30, 2007, and Feb. 9, 2008.

The Youngstown FBI office investigated the case.

Southington school board will have a special meeting in conjunction with the Southington Township trustees at 7 p.m. today at Southington Town Hall to discuss the 1907 building and adjacent property.

Suspect sought in Rite-aid robbery

HOWLAND

Township police are searching for a suspect in the robbing of a local drug store.

Police told 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, that a 30-to-40-year-old black male with a medium complexion and build, who is about 6 feet, 2 inches tall robbed Rite Aid on Market Street in Howland over the weekend.

The suspect, who was caught on the store’s surveillance camera, had a mustache and was wearing a light-colored hooded sweat shirt. Police are asking for the public’s help.

Walgreens robber

Niles

The quick response of Weathersfield police resulted in the apprehension of a robber at Walgreens in Niles.

Weathersfield police told 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, that they responded to the Walgreens at the corner of Tibbetts-Wick Road and U.S. Route 422 where a pharmacist told police a man claiming to have a gun stole about 100 pills and then ran.

With the help of a tracking dog, investigators arrested a suspect in a motel room on Route 422.

Drilling in Lisbon

Lisbon

Lisbon Village Council passed emergency legislation to allow hydraulic fracturing for Marcellus Shale on about 50 acres of village property, according to 21 WFMJ-TV.

Tuesday night’s legislation now allows council members to enter into contract negotiations with oil and gas companies.
