Roman Catholic middle school to open near Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Roman Catholic leaders have announced that a new private middle school will open next school year in suburban Toledo in a partnership with the largest Catholic high school in Toledo.

The school in Maumee, to be known as St. Joseph Maumee Preparatory, is associated with Toledo’s Central Catholic High School and St. Joseph School, a K-8 school with 201 students in Maumee.

The Blade newspaper reports the Monday announcement marks the first parish-based school rather than one affiliated with religious orders.

Christopher Knight, superintendent of schools for the Catholic Diocese of Toledo, applauded the school for looking at an innovative model.

The new middle school will have 75 students in grades 6-8.
