Mass. man in Wesleyan death committed to hospital
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) — A Massachusetts man who was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2009 shooting death of a Wesleyan University student has been committed to a maximum-security psychiatric hospital.
A three-judge panel on Wednesday ordered Stephen Morgan to be committed to the Whiting Forensic Institute in Middletown for 60 years.
The panel in December found the man from Marblehead, Mass., not guilty in the May 2009 death of 21-year-old Johanna Justin-Jinich. The college junior from Timnath, Colo., was shot seven times while working at a bookstore cafe.
A clinical social worker testified Wednesday that Morgan is psychotic and depressed and represents a danger to others.
