Mahoning commissioners delay raising hotel, motel bed tax


YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County commissioners today deferred the vote on raising the county's hotel and motel bed tax from 3 percent to 5 percent for at least another week.

The commisioners want to increase the tax to support the county's economic development efforts.

The commissioners heard a chorus of protests from representatives from the local hotel and motel industry at their weekly meeting before a standing-room-only crowd.

Commissioners did approve an agreement with the Western Reserve Port Authority, which operates Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in Vienna, to provide economic and community delelopment services fo the county.

The commissioners' next meeting with be at 5 p.m. March 8 at a Mahoning County Board of Development Disabilities facility, 153 Javit Court, Austintown.
