The Five
Is it overly hopeful to say that winter might be over? After all, March is around the corner, the weather has been mild, and even the movies seem to be improving (a little). At the risk of jinxing things, here’s a sunny view of the next month in movies.
v “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax” (opens Friday) : Danny DeVito seems a good choice to voice the tree-hugging title role in this adaptation of the classic children’s book.
v “John Carter” (March 9): Live action and motion-capture are mixed in this elaborate adventure-fantasy based on the Edgar Rice Burroughs novels about a Civil War soldier suddenly transported to Mars.
v “21 Jump Street” (March16): Jonah Hill turns the unintentionally funny television show into a straight-up comedy, co-starring with Channing Tatum as cops who go undercover as high school students despite looking way too old.
v “The Hunger Games” (March 23): This movie is based on the hugely popular sci-fi novel (the first in a trilogy) about teenagers competing in a deadly reality show.
v “Mirror Mirror” (March 30): This comedic take on the Snow White story features Julia Roberts as the mean Queen and Lily Collins as young Snow. An action-fantasy version, “Snow White and the Huntsman,” will follow this summer.
