Flight 93 families want 9/11 remains clarification

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The president of the Families of Flight 93 group says they want clarification on whether any remains from the western Pennsylvania 9/11 crash site ended up in a landfill.

Patrick White says he’s skeptical of a report issued Tuesday that said some remains were disposed of in a landfill. White says the group supports a letter that Republican Sen. Pat Toomey sent to the Pentagon, seeking clarification.

Somerset County Coroner Wallace Miller says today he doubts the report and hasn’t heard from the Pentagon. Miller led the effort to identify the remains of the 40 Flight 93 victims.

Air Force Gen. Norton Schwartz said this morning it now appears that no remains from Flight 93 were handled by a mortuary that disposed of other 9/11 remains in a landfill.
