Comedy contest for high schoolers offers cash prize, gigs for winner

Youngstown Comedy Syndicate will present the Mahoning Valley High School Class Clown Comedy Contest at Tiffany’s Banquet Center, 601 Bedford Road SE, at 7 p.m. March 10.

This contest is open to any current high school student, grades 9 through 12, attending school in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

Interested students must email YCS at alleghenyshane@yahoo.com to register. Leave name, school, grade and telephone number.

Each contestant will need to prepare five minutes of TV-ready clean material. Only words that can be used on network prime-time television are admissible.

Contestants will be judged by originality, stage presence and funniness.

Each set will get five minutes.

The grand prize winner will receive $200 in cash, two paid comedy gigs at Youngstown Comedy Syndicate comedy shows ($50 value) and other prizes.

Second place will receive $50 and a Youngstown Comedy Syndicate gift pack.

Third place will receive $25 and a Youngstown Comedy Syndicate gift pack.

There is no fee to enter the contest, and the contestants will get in free.

Tickets for audience members will be $5 at the door.
