Playhouse adds ‘Romeo’ show after cancellations

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Playhouse will present an additional performance of “Romeo and Juliet” at 7:30 p.m. Friday to make up for two canceled shows over the weekend.

Last Friday’s performance was halted before the end of the first act, and Saturday’s performance was canceled in advance, because Dylan White, who plays Romeo, had a flulike illness.

Sunday’s performance, which was to be the final show of the run, went on as scheduled. White performed, although he was not completely recovered.

White had been sick in the days leading up to last Friday’s performance but still attempted to do the show. He fell ill during the first act and had to leave the stage more than once, according to Carla Gipson, office manager for the Playhouse. The show ultimately had to be canceled when it became obvious that White could not continue.

White was treated backstage by Dr. John Cox, who also is in the cast of the play, and then taken to a local emergency room.

People who had purchased a ticket to the Friday or Saturday performance were offered a ticket to either Sunday’s performance or a future show of their choice.

Up next at the community theater on Glenwood Avenue will be “The 39 Steps” March 23-25 and March 30-April 1.
