Phantoms pick up road victory

The Youngstown Phantoms scored three goals in the second period en route to a 5-2 victory over the Dubuque Fighting Saints in a United States Hockey League game on Saturday night.

The Phantoms (26-14-5) won for the second time in three games on a mini road trip.

J.T. Stenglein scored twice for Youngstown, his 23rd and 24th of the season, including an empty-netter with 1:05 remaining in the game.

Todd Koritzinsky, Sam Anas and Ryan Belonger also scored for the Phantoms, who won despite being outshot 30-21.

Ryan Lowney and Dylan Margonari added assists for Youngstown.

Dubuque (28-14-3) got goals from T.J. Moor and Shane Sooth.

Youngstown’s Matthew O’Connor was the winning goal, making 28 saves.

Youngstown was 0 for 2 on the power play, but stifled four chances for Dubuque with a man advantage.

Koritzinsky got the scoring started with just five seconds remaining in the first period with his fifth goal of the season.

The Saints evened the score just 19 seconds into the second period on Moor’s 12th goal.

But just 1:09 later Stenglein scored his 23rd goal to give the Phantoms a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Anas notched his 13th goal with 15:53 remaining in the middle period, and Belonger scored his 15th with 7:44 to go.
