Alden receives USBC award

At Freeway Lanes today, Trumbull County USBC Youth Association manager Kay-Lynn Cullison will present a trophy to Howland High graduate Morgan Alden, who was on the winning four-person team (scratch) from Ohio that competed in the USBC National Youth Open championships last July.

Alden was on a team, Just Us Four, that included fellow Ohioans Jamie Robinson and Mary Wells of Westerville and Christopher Via of Springfield.

Just Us Four rolled 2730 for the 2011 USBC Division I team title. Alden’s contribution was a three-game set score of 647.

In their joint effort, the group’s games were 940, 957 and 833.

Also at Freeway, the Pepsi District G bowling tournament started and will run for three weekends.

The event is for bowlers up to age 20, who qualified at their individual centers.

The 46th annual Trumbull County USBC Youth Tournament was held at McKinley and Echo Lanes in recent weeks.

The team event was at McKinley, while singles and doubles were at Echo.

Medals and trophies were handed out for bowlers in nine divisions at Crest Lanes with the winners advancing to a regional in Wooster on April 22.

Kady has 789

Rich Kady’s 789 was the highlight in Charlie’s Service/Bedford Trails at Holiday on Feb. 21.

After an opening-game 300, Kady threw the first 10 strikes in the second game for a 286. His last game was a 203 for a 789 set.

“If only I had that much talent,” said Charlie’s secretary Dennis Riley.

Tony Caruso Jr. and Rick Havrilla had 300s in Monday Classic at West Side on Feb. 20, when Chris Koneval converted the 7-10 split.

Richard Hornyak had a 300 — his first — to start his night in Youngstown Steel/Mopar at Boardman on Feb. 15, before adding 207 and 185 for 692.

Teri Haefke’s 290-773 paced C-G Pro Shop/Ladies Trio at Wedgewood on Feb. 14, when Susan Carter’s 713 was the other 700.

Tony Impagliozza of Canton, who bowls in Terry’s Tire Town Wednesday Nite Commercial Men’s League at SuperBowl in Alliance, has had two 300s so far this season.

The first career perfect game came on Nov. 2 and another on Feb. 8. In between, Impagliozza, who bowls on the Louisville Auto Parts team, came within one frame of three more on separate occasions with 279, 278 and 287.

“We thought for sure he was going to get them again,” said league secretary Denny Furman, a 1970 South High graduate.

The 29-year-old Impagliozza’s average is 219, currently the best in the 10-team Terry’s Tire Town League.
