Pavlik: April 14 fight reports 'not true'

In a text message to Vindicator sports reporter Joe Scalzo, Kelly Pavlik said reports that he will fight April 14 in Las Vegas are "not true."

WSET, an ABC TV affiliate in Virginia, reported that Pavlik would fight Virginia native Scott Sigmon in a 10-round, 166-pound bout at Mandalay Bay. Top Rank chairman Bob Arum confirmed to Scalzo that he has targeted that date, since it would be on the undercard of the Brandon Rios-Yuriorkis Gamboa lightweight bout.

Pavlik said he wants to fight earlier.

"As of right now, we're looking at March," he wrote.

Pavlik has spent the past few weeks training in Oxnard, Calif., with new trainer Robert Garcia. A call left for Garcia was not immediately returned.
