Millcreek Children’s Center has received a series of grants to help the children there.

The St. Anne Foundation of the Sisters of Charity of Cleveland Foundation contributed $15,000 to provide enhancement for the center’s Kindergarten Readiness Program. The grant provides specialized materials and staff to ensure each Millcreek preschooler will develop optimal readiness for kindergarten and later school experience.

The Aimee and Lulu Seidel Foundation has contributed $9,600 to sponsor four children or working-poor parents.

The Kennedy Family Foundation of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley contributed $4,800 to sponsor two Millcreek preschoolers. More than 30 other local residents have contributed to the center’s Sponsor a Child Program. Donors help provide instruction with expert teachers, gym instruction, tap dancing and singing lessons and the Incredible Years curriculum, all free to the children enrolled at the center.

The Dominican Sisters of Peace have contributed $3,000 so each child will have the shoes, clothing and other necessities basic to learning.

The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown has continued to support the center with an annual donation of $10,000 to help families in emergencies.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society, through its collections from local parishes, provides Sister Jerome Corcoran, the center’s executive director, with food vouchers to help with the growing food crises of the families served. Individual donors also help with that endeavor.
