BOARDMAN

A 30-year-old Canfield man faces a felony theft charge after being accused of stealing an engagement ring from a Boardman retailer.

Police arrested Stephen L. Vasko of Fairground Boulevard on Wednesday. The manager of Direct Jewelry Outlet, 1235 Boardman-Canfield Road, told police about 4 p.m. Feb. 2 a man with military dog tags around his neck came into the store to look at a diamond ring. This was the man’s second time in the store. He had walked in a few minutes earlier and abruptly walked out, the manager told police.

The man asked to see a 14-karat gold diamond engagement ring valued at $3,975, made small talk with the manager and then snatched the ring and ran, according to reports. Police said the manager chased the man around the building before losing sight of him.
