The fluttering wings of Cupid could be heard up and down the hallways of Hilltop Elementary School as the students celebrated Valentine’s Day Feb. 14 with classroom parties.

Each class had a party coordinated by PTO volunteers, during which students played games, made crafts, enjoyed a snack of Oreos and Little Hugs and exchanged very special valentines.

Students brought in decorated Valentine boxes with a variety of themes, from the very ornate, such as Angry Birds, a pony, a two-story shoe store, to the very simple, such as Pittsburgh Penguins, soccer and boxes wrapped in elegant Valentine paper.

To entertain the students during the parties, PTO volunteers provided Valentine-themed games and crafts for the students. Games students played included a relay race to fill a cup with heart-shaped candies, throwing marshmallows through a heart cut-out and picking up heart-shaped candies with chopsticks while being timed.

Crafts included decorating a wooden Valentine frame, making and decorating a catch cup and making a foam panda heart frame, complete with a picture of the student.

Special Valentine-themed clothes and accessories were the order of the day for many students, staff and PTO volunteers as they celebrated the holiday.
