Saint Valentine would have been proud of the students at C.H. Campbell Elementary School as they celebrated the day named after him in style. The students celebrated Valentine’s Day with classroom parties Feb. 14.

Each class held a party in their classrooms, coordinated by PTO volunteers, during which students played games, made crafts, enjoyed a snack of Oreos and Little Hugs, and exchanged much anticipated valentines.

The students played Valentine-themed games such as pin the tale on Cupid, Valentine word search and Valentine bingo. Holiday crafts included making heart cards decorated with stickers and Valentine dog tags.

Students brought in hand-decorated valentine boxes, with such themes as Angry Birds, princess, Disney Cars and the traditional heart-shaped box, to collect valentines and treats from their classmates.

First-grade teacher Heather Bruno went a different direction with her students’ Valentine boxes and made a class project out of it. After the class read the Valentine story of “Freckles and Willie” about a boy and his dog, Bruno’s students made Valentine pouches in the likeness of Freckles the dog. The Valentine pouches were made in class with Bruno laminating them for the students once they were complete.

Many students, staff and PTO volunteers also got into the spirit of the holiday and celebrated it by wearing their Valentine best, including red, pink and white shirts and special Valentine-themed clothes and accessories.
