Boardman's Bailey has big morning at state swimming prelims
Boardman junior Ryan Bailey broke two school records in Friday's preliminary races at the Division I state swim meet at Canton's C.T. Branin Natatorium.
Bailey broke his own school record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 49.26 — four-tenths of a second better than his time at last week's district meet. He is seeded first in the event heading into Saturday's finals. If he wins, he would be the first Boardman swimmer to win a state swimming title since Tyler O'Halloran won the 50 and 100 freestyle as a senior in 2003.
Bailey broke O'Halloran's school-record time in the 100 breaststroke on Friday, swimming a 58.17 for the morning's seventh-best time. O'Halloran's record was 58.40. Bailey had been seeded 15th entering the morning's races. The top eight make Saturday's finals.
