Dog that fatally bit newborn in Pa. gets new home

MCKEESPORT, Pa. (AP) — The dog police say fatally bit a newborn baby in western Pennsylvania last week has a new home.

Bill Uhring adopted the 1 1/2-year-old Husky from a McKeesport shelter this week.

The animal bit 2-day-old Howard Nicholson on Feb. 16 while his mother was in the bathroom. The baby was airlifted to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and pronounced dead.

Uhring says he had the makeshift cast on the dog’s leg replaced and paid $600 for the release of the Husky and another dog taken from the home.

Uhring called Nicholson’s death a tragedy but the dog wasn’t deemed a danger and deserves a good home.

Officials at the nearby Woodland Hills School District tell the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review they’re concerned about student safety and will discuss legal options with their solicitor.
