Cops: Conn. hospital official disciplined shooter

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — A hospital maintenance worker charged with shooting two supervisors had been disciplined by one of them shortly before the attack, police announced Thursday.

Victor Valcarcel was arrested Wednesday night about an hour after the shootings at the Hospital for Special Care, a long-term, acute-care facility in New Britain. He is expected to be arraigned Thursday afternoon at New Britain Superior Court on attempted murder and assault charges.

The two victims, Robert Barucci and Lynn Trask, suffered apparent life-threatening gunshot wounds and were listed in critical condition, police said.

Authorities said Barucci had disciplined the 64-year-old Valcarcel earlier that day. It wasn’t immediately clear why.

Police were called to the hospital shortly before 6 p.m. on reports of one or more people being shot.
