Ohio couple sentenced to 12-year prison terms in boys' deaths

ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A judge has sentenced an Ohio couple to 12 years in prison each after their conviction in the drowning of the woman’s 3-year-old son and disappearance of his 2-year-old brother during a camping trip.

Multiple media outlets reported the sentences handed down today by Judge Mark Fleegle of Muskingum County Common Pleas Court for Kasey Klein and her husband Richard Klein Jr. of Zanesville.

Authorities have said the boys wandered away from a family campsite near the Muskingum River in June. The older boy’s body was found in the water within hours; the younger boy has not been found.

The couple was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

A prosecutor argued the couple’s irresponsibility led to the deaths.
