Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The kickoff of Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley’s 21st annual Harvest for Hunger is Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at 2805 Salt Springs Road.

Harvest for Hunger is a monthlong food and funds drive in March that helps replenish Second Harvest shelves during the spring and summer months when donations traditionally taper off.

All funds raised and food collected stays in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Second Harvest distributes food to 153 hunger-relief organizations that Second Harvest supplies with food in the tri-county area.

Individuals or organizations interested in conducting a food or funds drive to benefit the Harvest for Hunger campaign can call Rita Brady at 330-792-5522, ext. 11.

Those unable to conduct a food drive or a fundraiser can contribute at any local Giant Eagle store and select Sparkle Markets by tearing off a $1, $5, or $10 coupon or dropping off a donation of nonperishable food at the front of the store.

The 2012 Harvest for Hunger sponsors are Giant Eagle, 21 WFMJ-TV and WBCB, The Vindicator, Cumulus Radio Stations Y103, HOT 101 and K105, and United Food and Commercial Workers Local 880.
