Struthers city administrators hope to update playground equipment at the city’s main park.
The city has applied for a $25,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for new playground equipment, said Mayor Terry Stocker.
The city would contribute $5,000 from its storm-water management fund.
Stocker and Safety Services Director Ed Wildes said the money could be used from the storm-water fund by tying it to an educational activity. They said they would plan a poster contest for schoolchildren on the importance of storm- water management, then allow the winner to choose the playground equipment.
Stocker said the park has swing sets and old-fashioned steel sliding boards.
“We want to try to upgrade a little bit,” he said. “That’s our main park, centralized for the kids.”
Mauthe Park is bounded by the city’s first, third and fourth wards.
