A jumper by freshman Nate Jacubec (Struthers) produced the winning points. Senior Jimmy Wood poured in a career-high 39 points as the Purple Raiders clinched the No. 7 seed in next week’s Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament with the win. The Purple Raiders (11-14, 7-11) trailed by as many as 17 points in the first half. Wood scored 28 of his 39 points after halftime, went five-of-ten on three-point tries, and grabbed a team-best six rebounds. Justen Little tallied a career-high with 15 points. Jacubec, who made big shots in Wednesday’s win over Baldwin-Wallace, was more of a distributor, as he recorded five assists to go with 11 points. Stevie Griffin added 13 points and T.J. Gillespie had 10 points off the bench.

Baldwin-Wallace 73, Ohio Northern 65

BEREA

Sophomore forward Kyle Payne scored 23 points for the Yellow Jackeys (16-9, 11-7 OAC). Sophomore guard Kevion Krakowiak had 11 points and sophomore center Tyler Ferrell had 10. ONU (12-13, 8-10), was led by senior center Scott Schnelle’s game-high 27 points and nine rebounds while sophomore guard Brandon Rushton had 10 markers.

Thiel 80, Grove City 78

GREENVILLE, PA.

AJ Forbes drained a 27-foot three pointer as time expired to lift the Tomcats (16-7, 13-3 Presidents’ Athletic Conference). A Brett Matson lay-up moments before had put Grove City (11-13, 7-9). Thiel (16-7, 13-3 PAC) saw four players achieve double figure scoring, Blair Rozenblad (Kennedy Catholic) added 16 points and 16 rebounds for his 16th double-double of the season despite being held scoreless in the opening half. Devon Adams added 15 points and five assists while Ladell Trotty totaled 11 points and 13 rebounds. Mitch Marmelstein had a team-high 20 points to lead Grove City. Matson added 18 points, eight rebounds, and five assists while Kris Verderber and J.T. Schwartz added 11 and 10, respectively.

Wittenberg 72, Hiram 50

SPRINGFIELD

Wittenberg (20-5, 14-2 North Coast Athletic Conference) shot 40 percent from the floor and was led by the duo of Alex Brandt and Scott Masin with 12 points each. Hiram (14-11, 7-9) finished the game shooting 39.2 percent. Aaron Stefanov scored a game-high 13 points and senior guard Andrew Wiegand was the other Terrier had 10 points to go along with a game-high eight rebounds.

Geneva 100, Westminster 85

BEAVER FALLS, PA.

Dave Phillips led Geneva (5-11, 6-19 PAC) with a game-high 31 points, followed by Lambros Svignos with 26 in the battle for the sixth seed of the league tournament. Sophomore Anthony Thomas led the Titans with a career-high 27 points, including four three-pointers. Thomas also led on the boards with six rebounds. Also reaching a career milestone was junior Ron Martino (Cardinal Mooney) with 19 points. Also scoring in double digits for Westminster were juniors Doug Smith and Adam Carswell with 16 and 10 points, respectively.

WOMEN

Mount Union 90, Heidelberg 58

ALLIANCE

Junior point guard Rosa LaMattina had 18 points, freshman center Aly Daniel had a career-high 15 off the bench while seniors Kori Wiedt and Amanda Rose) each had 14 and 13 respectively to lead the Purple Raiders (24-1, 17-1 OAC). The Raiders have won 19 straight games and their last 21 at home. Jordan Ickes was one of three in double figures to lead Heidelberg (4-12, 1-17).

Westminster 58, Geneva 42

BEAVER FALLS, PA.

Junior Katie Hughes (Cardinal Mooney) scored 12 points off the bench for the Titans (9-15, 9-9 PAC). The Golden Tornadoes fell to 3-22 and 2-16 in the conference. Sophomore Courtney Zitt chipped in with 11 points and junior Jenn Cantella hit two three-pointers and finished with eight points. The Westminster defense forced 20 Geneva turnovers which led to 27 points for the Titans. Geneva was guided by Chelsea Kauffman and Beth DeLuca who had 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Thiel 63, Grove City 59

GREENVILLE, PA.

Ashley Davis notched her fourth double-double by scoring 19 points and making a season-high 13 rebounds. Kelly Barzak (Howland) tied a season high with her 26-point effort while adding seven rebounds and three blocks for the Tomcats. Thiel finished with a 44-34 advantage on the glass and finished the season plus-17 in its two-game sweep of Grove City. Hannah Jo Coneby led three Grove City players in double figures, finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Leah Gibson added 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists while Megan Gebrosky chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Baldwin-Wallace 70, Ohio Northern 65

BEREA

Junior forward Jessica Carpenter scored 27 points for the Yellow Jackets (16-9, 11-7). Catherine Spisak grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds and sophomore center Natalia Simovic scored 12 points. For the Polar Bears (20-5, 14-4), sophomore center Kenzie Yoder had a team-high 24 points. She was joined in double figures by junior guards Joanna Snyder with 12 points and Morgan Dumbaugh with 11, all in the second half.

Denison 64, Hiram 53

GRANVILLE

Tiffany Shields scored a game-high 23 points on 10-of-17 shooting (58.8 percent). Senior All-NCAC guard Kelsey Durichko (Brunswick) chipped in with a game-high six assists for the Terriers (9-16, 5-11 OAC). Hiram shot better from the field than Denison shooting 42.9 percent overall (21-of-49) and 26.7 percent (four-of-15) from three-point range. Denison shot 30.1 percent (22-of-73) for the game and 10.0 percent (two-of-20) from behind the arc.
