Eagle Award

Boy Scout Troop 25, chartered to Canfield United Methodist Church, Canfield, announced the awarding of the Eagle Scout Award to its 170th Eagle Scout, Christopher Jordan Blaney, 18, son of Ron and Diane Blaney of Canfield.

The court-of-honor ceremony took place last week at the church.

Blaney was a member of Cub Scout Pack 25 from 2001 through 2005 at the church, where he attained the rank of Arrow of Light and received the Parvuli Dei Religious Award.

He joined Troop 25 in February 2005, and his scoutmaster is Kevin Prus Sr. Blaney has held troop positions of assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, quartermaster and scribe.

He earned 21 merit badges. His special Scout awards include Camp Seven Ranges fifth-year Pipestone Award and the Gettysburg Historic Hike Award. He also earned the troop award, the Bob Roberts Memorial Back Patch Award with five points, attended five years at Camp Seven Ranges Summer Camp, 2007 Put-In-Bay Camp-o-ree and 2008 Gettysburg Historic Hike.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Blaney planned, developed and coordinated with his troop members and the preschool staff of Canfield United Methodist Church to transform an old shelf used to store games and made a mailbox unit where each student could have his or her own personal space to hold papers and projects. He also coordinated material donations from The Home Depot in Boardman.

He is a senior at Canfield High School where he has been a member of speech-and-debate team for four years, band and choir, and National Honor Society for two years.

Blaney received state superior rankings in both band and choir since 2009 and was a 2011 Lincoln-Douglas debate state qualifier.

He is a member of St. Michael Church, Canfield, where he is a member of the youth group. He also participates in community theater with Stage Left in Lisbon.
