Chamber hosts Youngstown event

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will host Good Morning, Youngstown from 7:30 to 9 a.m. March 2 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Hall, 343 Via Mount Carmel Way.

Youngstown Law Director Anthony Farris, on behalf of Mayor Charles Sammarone’s office, will look back at 2011 and reveal what will happen in 2012 for those who live and work in the Mahoning Valley.

Youngstown Schools Superintendent Connie Hathorn also will talk about the district’s plans for the remainder of the school year and beyond.

The cost is $20 for chamber members and $30 for nonmembers.

Apprentice apps start this week

The Plumbers and Pipe-fitters of the Mahoning Valley Joint Apprenticeship Committee soon will begin accepting applications for fall 2012.

Those interested should visit Local Union 396, 493 Bev Road, Building 3, at one of these dates and times: Monday through Friday and Feb. 27 through March 2; from 8 a.m. to noon Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but not between noon and 1 p.m., on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Those interested must be 18, have a valid driver’s license, be a high school graduate or equivalent, be a Mahoning Valley resident and be ready to interview and take a test.

A $45 fee will be charged for processing each application. For information, call 330-758-4596.

Nonprofit group schedules workshop

LIBERTY

Neighborhood Assistance Corp. of America has scheduled a workshop to help those who want to buy a home but are having trouble doing so. The workshop will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Casa Ramirez Restaurant in the Quality Inn, 4055 Belmont Ave.

The nonprofit organization assists those who have problems such as a low credit score or a lack of funds for a down payment.

New business filings are down slightly

COLUMBUS

Secretary of State Jon Husted announced that 6,940 new entities filed to do business in Ohio in January, a small increase over the 6,463 filings from December 2011.

Compared to the same month last year, in which 7,310 new entities filed with the Secretary of State, new filings dropped 11 percent.

New business filings are classified as forms filed with the Ohio Secretary of State that declare the formation of a business entity, including for-profit, nonprofit and professional corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, limited partnerships and limited liability partnerships.
