Austin Peay defeats YSU; Loyola wins

CLARKSVILLE, TENN.

The Youngstown State University men’s basketball team lost to Austin Peay, 71-68, in Saturday’s ESPN BracketBuster game.

Kendrick Perry led the Penguins with 20 points. Damian Eargle had 14 and DuShawn Brooks scored 13.

Loyola of Chicago 56, Bradley 44.

PEORIA, Ill.

Ben Averkamp had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Loyola of Chicago at Bradley.

The Ramblers (7-19) have won two of three after an 11-game losing streak in the Horizon League.

Loyola played the BracketBusters series game without its second-leading scorer and rebounder, Walt Gibler, who is out with a shoulder injury. Joe Crisman scored 10 points on Saturday for the Ramblers.

Jalen Crawford scored 12 points and Walt Lemon Jr. added 11 points for Bradley. The Braves (7-22) of the Missouri Valley Conference have lost three straight and nine of their last 10.

Illinois-Chicago 67, Eastern Illinois 63

CHARLESTON, Ill.

Gary Talton scored 20 points Saturday night to lead Illinois-Chicago to its first road victory of the season.

Daniel Barnes and Hayden Humes added 14 points apiece and Paris Carter 10 for the Flames (8-18), who broke a three-game slide and won their first road game after 13 losses.

Jeremy Granger scored 18 points for the Panthers (12-15), whose loss in the BracketBusters contest ended a three-game winning streak. Joey Miller and L.C. Doss added 10 points apiece.

The Flames shot 52 percent (25 of 48), including 56 percent in the first half.
