Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Riverdance, the acclaimed Irish dance show, will return to Youngstown for one performance at Covelli Centre at 8 p.m. May 15.

The show last came to Youngstown in February 2010.

Tickets are $38, $48 and $58 and go on sale at 10 a.m. March 2 through ticketmaster.com, any Ticketmaster outlet, by phone at 800-745-3000 and at the Covelli Centre box office.

The tour is the final one for the global phenomenon. Moya Doherty, producer of Riverdance, recently announced that the U.S. touring production will close in June.

“When we opened Riverdance in New York in March 1996, we never thought for one minute that our show would still be running 15 years later,” said Doherty. “Three years ago we embarked on our farewell tour, saying goodbye to every city in North America we have ever played in over the years, and on June 17, this current production will end.

While the touring production in the U.S. will close, productions of Riverdance will continue to tour the world.

Composed by Bill Whelan and directed by John McColgan, Riverdance has played more than 10,000 performances and has been seen live by more than 22 million people in more than 350 venues throughout 40 countries and across four continents.

The energetic show is credited with bringing Irish dance into the forefront of world stages.
