POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Feb. 3

Theft: An official with TRI T&J Ltd., 20 E. McKinley Way, reported missing funds, and that financial documents revealed discrepancies regarding monetary balances.

Feb. 5

Arrest: A traffic stop on U.S. Route 224 led to a 17-year-old township boy’s being charged with driving under suspension.

Feb. 6

Criminal damaging: A township resident reported a broken window, though the report did not mention the address.

Arrest: Police near Route 224 and state Route 616 stopped 22-year-old Alicia Stewart of Columbus, then charged her with driving under suspension.

BOARDMAN

Feb. 10

Theft: Kala M. Sullivan, 21, of 66 Campbell St., Youngstown, was charged in the theft of three curtains from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Aggravated menacing: An Applecrest Court woman reported a man threatened to burn down her home.

Breaking and entering: Someone forcibly entered a storage unit in the 7900 block of Southern Boulevard and removed fishing equipment, office supplies, a golf club and other items.

Breaking and entering: An undisclosed sum of money was missing after someone broke into Jill’s Touch, 6331 Market St.

Attempted burglary: A Mathews Road man noticed damage to a door after someone had tried but failed to enter his residence.

Fraud: A New Springfield man learned that three of his credit cards had been used in Boardman without consent.

Criminal damaging: A key was used to damage the finish on a vehicle’s passenger-side rear panel in the 5200 block of Market Street.

Stolen property: Township police began pursuing a stolen 2004 Sedan vehicle before four Youngstown men were apprehended near Cohasset Drive in the city on felony charges. Roderick A. Weaver, 19, of 189 Wirt St., faced two counts of receiving stolen property and one of fleeing and eluding police; Jahod L. Rose, 18, of 428 N. Richview Ave.; Thomas Clark, 19, of 522 Parkwood Ave.; and Rashad F. Bailey, 20, of 540 Cohasset, were charged with receiving stolen property.

Feb. 11

Arrest: Police charged 20-year-old Zachary T. Soles, 37 Shadyside Drive, Boardman, with underage consumption of alcohol and obstructing official business after saying Soles admitted having had beer after he ran from officers.

Arrest: Authorities picked up 22-year-old Joseph E. Hille at his residence, 860 Mathews Road, Boardman. Hille was wanted on a Struthers warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court on a contempt-of-court charge.

Domestic violence: Police charged 18-year-old Christopher R. Ocasio, 146 Mayflower Drive, Boardman, with the crime after his father alleged Ocasio had shoved him in the face and chest during an argument.

Arrest: A traffic stop near Indianola Road led to 24-year-old Alisha Shelton’s arrest. Shelton, of 346 Potomac Ave., Youngstown, was accused of failing to appear in court.

Theft: Bernita K. Carter, 30, of 209 Carroll St., Youngstown, was charged with stealing a pair of jeans from Dillard’s in the Southern Park Mall. She also was wanted on three warrants, including a probation-violation charge.

Assault/menacing: After an Argyle Avenue man reported three suspicious juveniles near his vehicle, he alleged the mother of one of the three bumped him with her vehicle and drove away. Also, a Meadowbrook Avenue woman alleged the man had grabbed her son’s arm and lifted him off the ground.

Theft: A Tracy Drive woman reported a stone to her diamond ring was missing and that it had been replaced with glass.

Assault: Authorities responded to a possible fight in the 900 block of East Western Reserve Road, where a woman alleged her boyfriend had dragged her by the elbows in an effort to force her into his truck at a Poland residence. The accuser had redness around her elbows.

Theft: Police booked 30-year-old Jesse J. Lavin, 230 Washington Blvd., Boardman, after accusing him of stealing a wiring kit, an accent light and a Bluetooth device from Walmart. He was released on a summons.

Identity fraud: A man told police he believed someone may have stolen a $1,200 Social Security check belonging to his elderly father of Tam-o-Shanter Drive.

Feb. 12

Burglary: A duplicate key may have been used to enter an apartment in the 6800 block of Lockwood Boulevard. A resident returned to find various items out of place.

Forgery: A Huntington Court woman discovered someone altered a $97 money order, then paid a third party without the woman’s authorization.

Theft: A woman told police someone removed her daughter’s flute and case from the band room at Boardman Center Middle School, 7410 Market St.

Breaking and entering: Someone pried open a rear door and entered a vacant home in the 5000 block of Friendship Avenue.

Theft: Donald M. Bell, 18, of 114 S. Bon Air Ave., and Thomas W. Egolf Jr., 20, of 106 S. Maryland Ave., were charged. The two Youngstown men were accused of stealing $33 worth of merchandise from Walmart, then released on summonses.

Menacing: A Mount Vernon, N.Y., woman visiting Boardman told police she received a text message with a threat of bodily harm.

Robbery: A 13-year-old Youngstown girl was arrested near Market Street on a robbery charge after several packages of gum had been stolen from Family Dollar, 4030 Market. The girl pushed a store manager who tried to detain her, then fled, a report said.

Feb. 13

Arrest: A vehicle registration check on Southern Boulevard led to the arrests of Vincent D. Tarver, 730 Oxford St., and Dashawnta A. Tarver, 457 Crandall Ave., both 29 and of Youngstown. They were wanted on warrants from Struthers and Campbell.

Theft: Three Youngstown girls, one 15 and two 17, were detained after having been accused of stealing $113 worth of merchandise from Walmart. The teens were released to the custody of a guardian.

Harassment: A worker for a Simon Road business reported a dissatisfied customer made four calls, one of which contained an implied threat.

Arson: A Youngstown man told police a lighter was used to burn his leather coat while he was visiting a Glenwood Avenue residence.

Theft: An employee with a Market Street real-estate business reported a subcontractor failed to return a company-owned credit card as well as miscellaneous tools and maintenance equipment.

Theft: Daniel M. Bell, 19, of 107 N. Evanston Ave., Youngstown, faced charges of theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after a $112 pair of men’s jeans was stolen from Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall. Bell also had in his pocket a digital scale with suspected marijuana residue, a report showed.

Feb. 14

Theft: A Canfield woman reported her wallet stolen at a Doral Drive store.

Arrest: Authorities picked up 44-year-old Anthony L. Foose at a Market Street motel. Foose, of 44 W. Princeton Ave., Youngstown, was wanted on charges of violating a protection order and telecommunications harassment.
