Poland alum stars at Baldwin-Wallace

Baldwin-Wallace College junior guard Ben Umbel, a graduate of Poland High School, led the Yellow Jackets basketball team to victories against John Carroll University (78-62) and Capital University (76-65) last week.

Umbel scored 20 points, grabbed 19 rebounds, passed for 13 assists, made five steals and blocked three shots in the two games. He had 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and a blocked shot in the win against JCU. Umbel carries a 3.97 g.p.a. in biology and pre-med.

Rotary hosts golf classic

The Poland Rotary is seeking golfers for its 27th annual Chili Open Golf Classic on Feb. 25.

The outing will be held at Bedford Trails Gold Course and the cost to play is $25 per person. All proceeds from this event will benefit multiple local charities.

Mooney dinner March 4

The Cardinal Mooney High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame Ron Stoops Scholarship Dinner will be at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman on March 4. Buffet dinner and open bar are scheduled between 6 and 8 p.m. and the induction ceremony will start promptly at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $65 or $520 (table of 8). Proceeds will benefit the Ron Stoops Scholarship Fund. For reservations, call 330-788-5007.
