Indoor track team competes at WATTS


The Boardman boys indoor track team competed at Youngstown State University at the new WATTS Center on campus.

The meet was the third of the season for the boys team.

Highlighting the Spartans success was senior Devin Campbell, winning the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.04.

That time qualifies Campbell for his second consecutive appearance in the New Balance National Indoor Track Meet in New York City the weekend of March 10.

Senior Allen Starkey placed second in the long jump with a leap of 20-5. Junior Will Birchfield placed ninth overall in the 60-meter hurdles in his first-ever high school track meet with a time of 9.54.

The 4x800 meter relay team of sophomore Alan Burns, junior Sam Sheronovich, sophomore Justin Maroni and senior Mike Moxley placed second with a time of 8:46.

The 4x200 meter relay team of sophomore Ivan Adu-Poku, senior Darel Green, Moxley and Starkey placed fourth in a time of 1:36.

Adu-Poku was 14th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.92. In the 400-meter dash, Moxley was 12th overall with a time of 53.94. Maroni was 13th in the 800

-meter run with a time of 2:13, senior Nathan Jones was 16th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.25 seconds, and Burns was 14th in the 1600 with a time of 4:52.
