First man involved in hazing of YSU students arraigned today, sent to jail
YOUNGSTOWN — The first of nine men wanted in connection with hazing of two Youngstown State University students has been arraigned and is now in Mahoning County jail.
Lavell Sharp, 25, of Green Acres Drive, Liberty, walked into court this morning with his attorney Rhys Cartwright-Jones, but by the end of the hearing he was led away in handcuffs.
Sharp surrendered to authorities Thursday and was released on a personal recognizance bond. Judge Elizabeth Kobly of Youngstown Municipal Court refused to allow that bond to stand and instead imposed a $25,000 bond for each of the two counts of felonious assault against Sharp.
Sharp was arrested when he could not post the $50,000 bond.
Sharp, who is a YSU student, was also informed that he is to have no contact with YSU, the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity or the two victims in the case.
Trey McCune, 21, of Ohio Avenue, also surrendered to police and is expected to be arraigned this afternoon. He is in the county jail.
