Crash victim dies

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County coroner’s office confirmed that a 45-year-old city woman died Thursday after a car crash near the Youngstown State University campus. A coroner’s investigation is pending.

Susan Welsh was injured Tuesday when she was a passenger in a car driven by her mother, Elaine Welsh, 79, of Youngstown, police said. Welsh’s car was westbound on Rayen Avenue and was hit about 3 p.m. by a car driven by YSU student Samantha Yoder, 21, of Alliance, who was traveling southbound on Fifth Avenue.

Detectives said charges are pending in the case. Elaine Welsh was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, and police said she remained in stable condition late Thursday.

Theft probed

BOARDMAN

Police are investigating a theft of more than $800 from McDonald’s, 1110 Boardman-Poland Road.

The theft was reported Wednesday evening, and restaurant managers said it occurred between Sunday night and Wednesday morning. A manager told police that a deposit bag containing $811.39 was missing and an internal investigation is ongoing, according to reports.

Representative plans office hours

EAST LIVERPOOL

State Rep. Craig Newbold of Columbiana, D-1st, will have district office hours from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Carnegie Public Library, 219 E. 4th St.

The guidelines for the office hours are as follows:

Individuals will be required to fill out an information form; Newbold will meet with one individual at a time (no appointments necessary); and each individual will have a maximum of 15 minutes to meet with Newbold, depending on turnout. The time may be extended if no one is waiting.

Low water pressure possible in city

YOUNGSTOWN

Some Youngstown water customers may experience low water pressure because of emergency flushing of fire hydrants. The flushing was needed as a result of a tanker truck overturning Tuesday on the state Route 711 connector on-ramp from Interstate 680 and spilling gasoline into the city’s sewer system.

Program on using vacant land set

The Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, a nonprofit organization, will have a presentation at 6 p.m. Feb. 28 at the YWCA, 375 N. Park Ave. on reusing vacant land.

Ted Auch of the Cleveland Botanical Gardens will talk about creating jobs and improving stormwater and sewer problems. The event is free.
