YOUNGSTOWN

Tax bills for all 166,000 real-estate parcels have been mailed to Mahoning County landowners for the first-half tax collection, which closes March 9.

Jamael Tito Brown, operations director in the county treasurer’s office, said the bills, totaling $108 million, were mailed Wednesday from the downtown Youngstown post office, and landowners should begin receiving them today.

This is the first collection to reflect changes in taxes based on the once-every-six-years comprehensive reappraisal of county properties that was completed last year.

Brown urged people with questions about property valuation to call the county auditor’s office at 330-740-2010.

Those with questions about tax amounts and the collection process should call the treasurer’s office at 330-740-2460, he said.

Taxes may be paid by cash, check, money order or credit card. Taxes may be paid in person at the treasurer’s office, 120 Market St., which is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Taxes paid by mail are considered on time if postmarked on or before March 9.

Residential and agricultural property owners wanting an appraiser to explain how their property value was derived may go to Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave., entrance A, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from now through the end of March. The consultations are free, and no appointments are necessary.

Those who disagree with their new property values have until March 31 to appeal to the county board of revision.

County offices will be closed Monday because it is Presidents Day, and the appraisers will not be at Oakhill on that day.

All Mahoning County land parcel values and taxes are posted at www.mahoningcountyoh.gov.
