Mahoning County buys more than $500K in gas for county vehicles

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County commissioners approved a resolution of necessity to buy about $575,000 worth of fuel for county vehicles under the state purchasing contract with Great Lakes Petroleum Co. of Cleveland.

The county’s current price is $3.19 per gallon each for gasoline and diesel fuel.

The price will fluctuate daily, but average about 1 percent above the wholesale price, said J. Robert Lyden, county sanitary engineer. The commissioners bought about a year’s supply of fuel today, Lyden said.

Lyden’s office provides fuel to county highway engineer’s department vehicles, and it provides fuel and maintenance services to vehicles used by the sheriff’s office, dog warden’s office and health department.

The commissioners also approved resolutions of necessity to buy about $65,000 worth of auto parts from NAPA Auto Parts for county vehicle maintenance and about $35,000 worth of tires under the state purchasing contract from the Bob Sumerel Tire Co. of Youngstown, Flynn’s Tires and Goodyear Auto Service.
