2-day-old baby bitten by dog in western, Pa. dies

MCKEESPORT, Pa. (AP) — A 2-day-old infant has died after police say it was bitten in the head by a family dog at a home near Pittsburgh.

Police in McKeesport have yet to release the names of the baby’s parents, but say the Husky that apparently bit the child was one of four dogs in the home, along with a pit bull.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office says little Howard Nicholson was pronounced dead just before 11 a.m. today at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

Police Chief Bryan Washowich says the baby was lying on the floor when the dog grabbed him by the head about 9:30 a.m.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday morning. Police are investigating how the dogs were kept in the home among other matters.
