Knight recommended

WARREN

The Trumbull County Republican Party has recommended Ron Knight of Howland to fill a four-year Republican Party seat on the Trumbull County Board of Elections.

Craig Bonar, former county Republican Party chairman, currently holds the seat but chose not to seek another term.

Knight served a previous four-year term that ended in January 2010 with the election of Republican Party Chairwoman Kathi Creed of Liberty to the board.

During Knight’s previous term on the board, he sought the consolidation of polling places throughout the county to save money.

Before Knight can assume the position March 1, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted must affirm the selection. The Trumbull Democrats have recommended Niles Mayor Ralph Infante to fill the Democrats’ open seat.

School still closed

GALLOWAY, Ohio

A central Ohio high school will remain closed Wednesday, the third day students have missed classes due to an odor that made several feel ill.

Columbus media outlets report the state fire marshal’s office and other investigators will try to determine the cause of the odor at Westland High School in Galloway.

The school was first evacuated Monday morning, and about a dozen students and staff who felt nauseated or dizzy were checked at hospitals as a precaution. Students returned Tuesday but were again evacuated when the odor resurfaced.

A South-Western City Schools spokeswoman says the district has hired experts in air quality and building mechanical systems to help determine the cause of the odor. She says the school will not be reopened until building issues are ruled out.
