Pittsburgh-area mall opens after false bomb threat
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A major Pittsburgh-area mall has opened an hour late after police searched for a bomb due to a threat found written on a bathroom wall.
A mall employee found the threat about 5:30 a.m. this morning at the Ross Park Mall in Ross Township, a relatively affluent suburb just north of the city.
Authorities closed the mall and restricted nearby traffic about 7:30 a.m. while they searched the mall and surrounding areas with bomb-sniffing dogs. That snarled some rush-hour traffic and inconvenienced employees of mall stores who were made to wait in the parking lot of a nearby business.
A spokesman for the mall says “every precaution was taken, the situation was addressed and Ross Township Police have determined there was never any danger or device at the mall.”
The mall opened at 11 a.m.
