Investigating death

YOUNGSTOWN

Cause of death for Jeffrey Uber, 57, of Niles, remains under investigation, though “all is pointing to an accident,” the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office reports. Uber died at St. Elizabeth Health Center last Wednesday after being brought there Feb. 7 from Better Management Corp. of Ohio, a trucking company, on Esterly Drive in Columbiana, where he suffered a head injury. Chris Meditz of the coroner’s office said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is also continuing to investigate.

2nd crash victim ID’d

NEWTON FALLS

Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol have identified the second man who died in a Monday morning single-car accident in Newton Township as Justin Litz, 20, of Newton Falls.

Litz was a passenger in a car driven by Richard Aandewiel, 27, of Newton Falls, that crashed into a tree at 11:04 a.m. on Kale Adams Road three-tenths of a mile south of Hewitt-Gifford Road.

Troopers said Litz died at the scene. Aandewiel was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center and was in critical condition Monday afternoon. Hospital officials declined to provide Aandewiel’s condition Tuesday.

Another passenger, Michael Robison, 20, of Newton Falls, was pronounced dead at Akron City Hospital.

Attempted abduction

WARREN

A Warren police detective was attempting Tuesday afternoon to talk to the two girls who reported that two men tried to abduct them Saturday evening. Sgt. Jeff Cole said no arrests have been made, and police have no leads to indicate who the men were. The girls, sisters, age 6, said they were walking home in the 1500 block of Kenilworth Avenue Southeast at 7:08 p.m. when two men — one black and one white — came up from behind and physically picked them up. The girls were able to kick free and run to a friend’s house, police said. The men fled in a black Ford Ranger pickup truck toward Niles Road, the girls said.
