First Ohio casino to open in May in Cleveland

COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio’s first casino should be open in time for the Memorial Day weekend.

The Ohio Casino Control Commission today announced that the Cleveland casino will open the week of May 14 while Ohio’s second casino will open two weeks later in Toledo.

Commission executive director Matt Schuler says the actual opening dates will be decided later, based on discussions between the casino operators and regulators.

The opening dates have been delayed by a backlog of background checks for casino employees.

Casinos also are planned in Cincinnati and Columbus.
