Brookfield man and his dog die in garage fire

BROOKFIELD

An elderly man is dead after his garage went up in flames.

Edward Schultz, 74, of Merwin Chase Road, was found dead Wednesday inside his garage after Brookfield fire crews extinguished the blaze inside.

Capt. Matt Gordon said they received a call around 3 p.m., and when crews arrived at the home less than five minutes later the garage was fully engulfed in flames.

“We were told originally that [Schultz] wasn’t inside, that just his dog was in the garage,” Gordon said. “Once we extinguished the fire we found him inside.”

He said Schultz’s dog also died in the blaze.
